“Taste of New Mexico Tour”
September 3, 2006 Labor Day Weekend
Written by Chuck Duncan • Photography by Mickey Cochran (unless otherwise stated)

This Labor Day there is a fun new option on the “Things to do in Ruidoso list".
The Lincoln County Tour Company, operated by two of Ruidoso’s most colorful folks, Paul and Susan Kolb, has developed a brand new Culinary Tour for those looking to explore something a little different … New Mexico style.

Leaving Ruidoso at 10 a.m. the tour will take you through some of
Southeastern New Mexico’s prettiest country.

A stop at Tularosa’s worlds famous “Eagle Ranch Pistachio’s” will offer you a chance to sample many different kinds of pistachios and locally produced award winning wines as well as pick up some very unique gift items.

Then it is off to the Tularosa winery, which is currently in the production stage of the Fall Harvest … a fascinating process to witness. Of course, sampling is a big part of the visit! Lunch will be at the "Nut House" in La Luz or time permitting the fabulous "Windmill Restaurant" in the Mescalero. Either way, it will be wonderful and both places are reasonably priced, especially considering the quality of the food. The Nut House is famous for their baked goods and you will want to buy some to take home. The Windmill is known for their fry bread … mmmm!

The Tour will then swing up to Carrizozo, a burgeoning artist community, where you will visit the Sierra Blanca Brewery, makers of New Mexico’s best brews. Sampling, once again, is on the schedule and purchasing cool stuff is too.
