Ski Apache Summertime!
Written by Chuck Duncan • Photography by Mickey Cochran

Known as much for its scenery as its incredible snow, Ski Apache truly is one mountain with two sides. Towering over the Villages of Ruidoso and Mescalero, Sierra Blanca commands the high chaparral of Southern New Mexico for as far as the eye can see. And for the first time Ski Apache is opening for the summer fun!

The gates swing open on July 1st and will remain open until September 4th. Visitors to the Mountain will be able to ride the Gondola to the top of the ski hill where the views are spectacular.

With a little walking, the enthralling vista of the White Sands National Monument comes into view, an experience usually only available to the Ski crowd until now.

To further enhance the visit, a Narrated Nature Tour will run twice a day to introduce you to the various features of the Mountain such as the flora and fauna as well as interesting landmarks visible only from this altitude. To make sure everyone enjoys the day, horseshoe pits and a Frisbee golf course will provide some leisurely Mountain fun. And typical of Mescalero style hospitality the Sun Deck will offer high altitude chairs designed to rest those weary legs.

Ski Apache is also hosting an archery tournament on July 23rd & 24th. There will be two courses and all interested archers are encouraged to check it out.
