Old Lincoln Days is a celebration of one of the most colorful eras in the history of the old west. A re-enactment of Billy the Kids famous escape from the Lincoln Courthouse, a parade, a fiddle contest and lots of unique and interesting vendor booths are all set to take you a step or two back in time. This little town with a population of only 150 swells to bursting during this popular event. Folks walking the street in period costumes beckon to a time when life was not so simple. In fact, the street that runs through Lincoln was once known as the deadliest 1000 yards in America. That, of course, was at a time when the six gun was as much a part of ones wardrobe as a wide brimmed hat. The town itself is completely preserved as it was during Pat Garretts term as Sheriff and leaves little to the imagination. You can almost smell the gun smoke from the infamous battle that left Lawyer McSween dead and Billy the Kid famous
or infamous, depending on which side of the war you are partial to.
Speaking of gun smoke, the New Mexico Wild Bunch is hosing a quick draw contest on the 6th and 7th in Lincoln. This is a BYOG (bring your own gun) event that will match men against men and gals against gals. You must have a 45 caliber pistol with primed brass and you gotta dress the part. The Wild Bunch will supply the wax bullets. So there you have it
Live entertainment, good food, cold drinks, and cool stuff to buy at Old Lincoln Days. So come on up to the high Chaparral of Lincoln County and join in the fun.
