Setting the stage for the world’s richest Quarter Horse purse is the Futurity trials event. This is an exciting time at Ruidoso Downs Race Track as the year begins to close on the racing season and the best of the best begin to emerge as the favorites for the big day in September. The air will fill with excitement as the call to post sounds and the horses are paraded past the crowds.
Handicappers will be busy scratching notes in their racing programs as the jockeys and trainers work to keep the mounts steady. The odds board will flash totals and odds as wagering becomes furious. Then the horses will be loaded into the starting gates and as the last one is locked the announcer will get everyone to their feet as he yells…and their off! What happens next???…Well, I guess you’ll just have to come on up to Mountain Cool Ruidoso and see for yourself.
